The Realm of the
MERMAIDS
Warriors & Mermaids?... What's this all about?
In Homer’s Odyssey, Ulysses’ most formidable foes turn out to be mermaids (sirens) – gorgeous womanly sea-creatures whose compelling feminine beauty and enchanting melodies have the magical power to turn the fiercest of battle-hardened he-warriors into mush and jelly, bewitching them to a seemingly sinister doom. Of course, you may read whatever you like in this metaphor.
But the story we like to see is one where the mermaids entice the fearsome warriors – not to their death per se – but rather into relinquishing their arms and armours, their quest for victory and valour, their thirst for hatred and blood, in favour of a beautiful realm where love, harmony and peace replace ego, war and greed: the paradigm of the mermaids, realm of the feminine.
